Inspired by a vacation trip to Italy, a family desired a distinctive wall medallion as a focal point in their library. Over several discussions and reviews of sketches, a complex and sophisticated design developed that included a representative antique vase with flowers, traditional acanthus leaf and filligre sculpture elements, grapes and wine glasses representing their small vineyard, and a hummingbird and butterfly representing two family members.
A round picture frame was fabricated using cherry to give the medallion presence against stained cherry wall paneling. The overall diameter is 39 1/2". Hundreds of individual pieces of veneer and sand shading contribute to the result.
The white rectangular items flanking the medallion are wall sconces.
