A family was remodeling a powder room. There was no storage and the vanity was being replaced by a stand and bowl, so wall cabinet storage was needed.
The community has a strong Shaker influence, and the family had some Shaker style pieces elsewhere in the house. Therefore it was decided to design the wall cabinet in the Shaker style. A copy of typical Shaker cupboard/cabinet designs allowed the family to choose the particular look they preferred. (A copy of those typical designs is available on the "Design Guides" link from the home page.)
Hand cut and chopped dovetails continue the Shaker inspiration for the cabinet.
A pair of adjustable shelves provide generous flexible storage.
The back slats were given half laps to allow for seasonal expansion and contraction. To make the seasonal gap between boards less noticeable, each board was given a scratch bead. This bead was duplicated on the front edge of the shelves.
